Life Story of Jalaram Bapa

Jalaram Bapa was born in Virpur, Rajkot district, Gujarat, India in 1799, on the seventh day of the Kartika month. His father was Pradhan Thakkar and his mother was Rajbai Thakkar of the Lohana clan. He was a devout follower of Lord Rama.

Though married at the age of sixteen to Virbai, Jalaram Bapa desired a spiritual life, devoted to service. He and Virbai together began serving saints and feeding the needy, creating a spiritual center of hospitality and devotion.

At eighteen, he became the disciple of Bhoja Bhagat, receiving the Rama mantra and japa mala. With blessings, he began the Sadavrat—feeding anyone in need. A Sadhu gifted him a Rama idol, and soon idols of Hanuman, Sita, and Lakshmana appeared miraculously.

Jalaram Bapa's home became a center of miraculous healing and divine presence. His fame spread as a divine soul, and people of all faiths came seeking help. His prayers, always in the name of Rama, were believed to cure the suffering.

A Muslim man, Jamal, offered 40 maunds of grain after his son was healed by Jalaram Bapa's grace—proving that Jalaram's service transcended religion and caste.

In one divine test, God appeared as a sadhu and asked for Virbai to serve him. With her consent, she went. The test ended with an Akashvani declaring their purity and devotion. She returned with a Jholi and Danda, which are still preserved at Virpur.

Today, Jalaram Bapa's house in Virpur is a revered shrine. It houses the idols he worshipped and the very photo taken a year before his death. The temple uniquely does not accept donations since 9th February 2000, a testament to its enduring spirit of service.
